Mursell Estate Regeneration
Stockwell, Lambeth, London
The success of a housing project is not independently determined by the design of the housing itself, but dependent on the ways in which it connects with and builds upon its surroundings and wider relationship to the city as a whole. Enclave Urbanisum is a phenomenon that produces borders and can seperate residents living within housing estates as they each own their own segments, protected from each other.
As a Studio we have been asked to respond to the issues faced by those living in Social housing. Our studio is tasked with upgrading Mursell Estate, a social housing estate within Stockwell, London. This will be done through various interventions targeted at specific areas of the site. The existing residences on Mursell Estate can’t be touched and interventions must be considerate of the existing structure and how it is currently used.
Throughout this project i have explored ideas of community facilities and thresholds between the site and the surrounding community, investigating how these can be connected. By doing this the site will be come a safer and more enjoyable place to live, visit and pass through.
